After high school I went straight to Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, VA & graduated with a B.A. in Psychology four years later. I found out pretty quick after applying for a number of jobs in my field, that not only was it hard to break in but the pay scale was not going to take me where I wanted to go.

Hello corporate America! Started out with a number of short lived positions - head hunter, nanny to Ethel Kennedy, waitress, bartender. Finally, Motorola/Codex, secretary to a datacom manager, a "real job". Still living in the Northern Virginia area, eventually moved on to a real estate management/investment group. Worked my way up from office manager to budget analyst (took advantage of the corporate reimbursement program for college classes in business & accounting). My last corporate job was working with a real estate investment trust - commerical division in the Washington D.C. area.

I re-educated for a less stressful job - aesthetician. Now the proud owner/operator of Angel Face Skin Care in Ellicott City, Maryland. My husband, Mark, of many years, & I have a lovely daughter, 15 years old (I had decided early on not to have kids & changed my mind at the age of 42).

Some other hobbies/interests: PTSA President at River Hill High School, Clarksville, MD, Future Businss Leaders of America - adult advisory board RHHS, Homeowners Assoc. president, managing local political campaigns - school board & county council & world travel. Would love to hear from any former classmates.

UPDATE:

I retired in 2020 and my daughter is 25 now.

After high school, I went on a blind date and it was with my future husband.   He was a Navy man stationed at the Pentagon and worked for Admiral Zumwalt.  We married and moved to his hometown in Waynesville, N.C., located in the Smokey Mountains.   At that time he joined the Navy Reserves.   We lived in Waynesville for 10 years and then Bob re-joined the Navy.   We moved to Philadelphia, PA, where the USS Saratoga was getting an overhaul and lived there for 6 months and during that time I became a soccer coach for my son’s soccer team.   When the “Super Sara” was ready, we moved to Mayport, Florida where she was stationed.   During our stay, I became very involved in my church, becoming a 3 and 4 year old Sunday School Teacher, working with the youth, and other activities.

I also was touched by the Holy Spirit to travel as a short term missionary to Chile, South America.   This was during Penochets rule, so we had to be careful every where we went.   Our next location was Norfolk, Va.   My husband was stationed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt.   After his stay on the “Rosey”, he was an instructor at Fleet Training Center in Norfolk.   Our next location was to Dahlgren, VA. This is not on a map. Bob was an instructor for Aegis Training Center there. Dahlgren houses the enormous computer where Cobol was developed.   It is housed in a building all its own.

During our stay, I took classes towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems in Fredericksburg, VA.   I finally received my degree.   The next station was the USS Grasp at Little Creek Naval Station in Va, Beach.   This little ship went everywhere up and down the east coast.   During The J.F. K., Jr. plane crash, the Coast Guard located the plane and Navy Seals from the USS Grasp, recovered his body and his wife and her sister.   Bob was not a Navy Seal, but he had the highest security clearance among the crew, and was chosen along with others to protect the entrance ways to the part of the ship where the bodies were placed and where Ted Kennedy and his son came aboard to identify them.   My husband was also the one chosen to send vital information and photographs to Washington, D.C.   Bob was not the same after that.

Bob and I were married for 29 years and have been divorced for 12 years.   We have 3 children together, Kevin, Matthew, and Sandra.   Kevin attended Western Carolina University and is an Environmental Health Specialist.   Matthew owns a business here in Winston-Salem, NC and is opening up a second store in Greensboro, NC.   Sandra works for the Boy Scouts of America.   I have 3 grandchildren and one on the way.   My grandchildren are very special to me.   Brock is 9, Zeb is 7, and Caitlin is 7.   Caitlin is the 59 year old in a seven year old body!   Brock is the story teller and writer, and Zeb is my very, very special grandchild.   He has Aspergers Syndrome which is on the Autism scale.   Zeb loves to drive his Ford F150 around the yard and also take Caitlin for rides.   At this time in my life, I take care of Brock and Caitlin while my daughter works, and I keep my son Matthew straight.   In my spare time, I continue to involve myself in graphic art and photography.

Wishing the Class of '73 the very best!   Unfortunately, we will be traveling and unable to attend.

My past 50 years in a few sentences:   After graduating from Virginia Tech, I moved to Richmond to take a job with Deloitte as a CPA, and while working, earned an MBA at night from VCU.   After 25 years of service, I retired from a Richmond-based global manufacturing company in roles including operations, finance and M&A.   In 2006, I started Turnaround Strategies LLC, helping struggling small businesses develop a survival strategy and secure new bank financing.

Kim and I just celebrated our 41st anniversary and (see family picture) have two grown sons who live in Richmond.   In retirement, we enjoy snow skiing in Colorado, bicycling and traveling to new places.   I play lots of golf and serve on two boards that have a focus on mental health and affordable housing.   Enjoy the 50th celebration!

Best regards,

Mike
